When should you see an Orthodontist?

A Child’s First Orthodontic Check-up

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that a child first sees an Orthodontist no later than age 7. At this age most children have their 6-year molars and at least 4 of their permanent teeth. This allows us to diagnose issues with emerging teeth and jaw growth in order to develop a treatment plan that typically begins between ages 8 and 14. This proactive approach mitigates the need for more extensive and costly treatments later in life.

Two-Phased Orthodontic Treatment

Two-phased orthodontic treatment consists of two separate times when a child receives orthodontic treatment. It combines tooth straightening and physical facial changes. The first phase helps the jaw to develop to accommodate all permanent teeth and improve bite. The second phase completes the teeth and jaw alignment and usually involves braces.

Adult Treatments

Healthy teeth can be aligned at any age, although in adults the growth and development of the jaw is Complete and periodontal disease is more prevalent.
